Fault events don’t schedule themselves around convenient maintenance windows. The only reliable way to confirm a system remains fit for purpose is through periodic, properly documented testing carried out by engineers who understand what they’re looking for and what the results actually mean.

Your protection system works right now. The question is whether it’ll work next year.

TERRATECH provides periodic inspection, testing, and maintenance for earthing and cross bonding systems, lightning protection systems, and small power infrastructure in data centres and critical mission facilities. We work across Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, covering both scheduled maintenance programmes and reactive assessments where a facility has no clear record of when its protection systems were last properly tested.

Our testing work is carried out by engineers who understand the systems involved not generalist maintenance contractors working through a standardised checklist. We inspect thoroughly, we report plainly on what we find, and we distinguish clearly between deficiencies that require immediate remedial action and those that should be monitored and addressed within a planned programme.

Where remedial works are needed, we carry them out to the same standards we apply to new installation. There’s no handoff to a different team and no ambiguity about accountability for the quality of the corrective work.

For data centre operators specifically, there’s an additional factor that makes periodic testing important beyond simple standards compliance: data centres change. New equipment comes in, cable management is modified, refurbishments alter bonding paths. A system that was correctly installed and tested several years ago may not accurately reflect the current state of a live facility. Our inspection process is designed to identify those changes and assess their effect on system integrity.

Testing & Maintenance Scope

Periodic LPS Inspection & Testing
Visual examination and electrical testing of complete lightning protection systems in accordance with EN 62305-3 / DIN EN 62305-3, at frequencies appropriate to the site’s protection level classification. Includes review of previous inspection records and comparison with as-built documentation.

Earth Electrode & Earthing Network Testing
Fall-of-potential testing on individual earth electrodes and combined earthing networks. Measurement and recording of earth resistance values, with assessment against design targets and applicable standards thresholds.

Continuity Testing
Conductor and joint continuity verification across complete earthing and LPS circuits, including cross bonding conductors, structural steel connections, and equipotential bonding networks.

Step & Touch Potential Testing
Assessment of step and touch potential levels at critical locations within and around a facility, where personnel safety during fault events needs to be confirmed particularly relevant in substation yard environments and at generator installations.

Soil Resistivity Surveys
Periodic soil resistivity assessment to monitor changes in ground conditions that may affect the performance of buried earth electrodes over time.

Current Injection Testing
System-level testing on critical protection paths using current injection methods, verifying overall system performance rather than the condition of individual components in isolation.

SPD Condition Assessment
Physical inspection and functional assessment of installed surge protective devices, with identification of units requiring replacement and management of a replacement programme where required.

Remedial Works
Repair, replacement, and upgrading of deficient components identified during inspection, documented with pre- and post-remediation test values to confirm the effectiveness of the corrective work.

Structured Maintenance Contracts
Ongoing maintenance agreements with inspection frequencies aligned to EN 62305, facility criticality, and client or insurer requirements including provision of organised inspection records suitable for regulatory and insurance review.

Why This Matters for Data Centres in Particular

Compliance with DIN EN 62305 and EN 50522 requires periodic inspection and maintenance of earthing and LPS systems, and the intervals are not suggestions. Insurers and regulators in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg treat missing or inadequate maintenance records as a serious gap. Beyond the compliance dimension, there is a straightforward engineering argument: a protection system that was designed and installed to a high standard provides no protection at all if its condition has degraded to the point where it no longer performs as intended.

The facilities we work in are ones where that argument needs no elaboration. Our clients understand it, which is why they tend to stay with us once we’ve demonstrated what a properly conducted inspection looks like.

Specialist inspection, testing, and maintenance of earthing and lightning protection systems for data centres and critical facilities across Germany and the Benelux.

[117
post-7214","cpt_services","type-cpt_services","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cpt_services_group-earthning-lps
["GET
